John S. Whittington, MD

John S. Whittington, M.D., is the President of Anesthesia Associates of New Mexico, one of the largest medical groups in NM. He has been practicing anesthesia in New Mexico for seven years. Prior to coming to New Mexico, John completed a fellowship in Cardio-thoracic Anesthesia at New York Presbyterian Hospital--Cornell.

He is also a founding partner of Black Lion Sports Medicine, and is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). He has been involved in several pre-season training camps for professional cycling teams, including the Navigators Insurance Pro Cycling Team, Team Lipton's professional women's cycling team (the team of World and Olympic womenʼs time trial champion Kristin Armstrong) and a group of riders from the Belgian Cycling Center, an international cycling-development program for young cyclists. The cycling center is now called the Johan Bruyneel Cycling Academy. More recently, he was involved in the medical and lactate testing for the Astana Cycling Team of two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador.

John was not involved in endurance sports growing up, but has since embraced them in all forms. He has been involved in Marathons, Ultra- Marathons and Ironman events. This season will have him racing at Ironman St. George, and ending the season at Ironman Arizona in November.

When not training, racing, and working, he spends time with his wife Kristin and his two children Grace and William. As such, he has experience with incorporating maximum training efficiency in limited time.
